1991 Volkswagen Golf Country Chrome Edition

Jocke74
Lerum

Basic information and History

Rare Volkswagen Golf Country "Chrome Edition" from 1991! The car was initially only a fun prototype, but was later put into production by Steyr-Daimler-Puch, which manufactured the very best four-wheel drive cars. In total, approx. 7735 pieces of Golf Country over two years. 1,500 of these were Country Allround and only 558 were "Chrome Edition". This edition differs from the regular Golf Country with, among other things, chrome details and a higher level of equipment. The car is also markedly different from a regular Golf, with, among other things, a typical subframe, ground clearance raised to a whopping 21 centimetres, bumper plates and protective rails mounted front and rear and new springs and dampers that were included in the package. The body was also fitted with fender edges and thresholds in durable plastic and the finishing touch - the spare wheel on the tailgate! When the car was sold, the price tag was double that of a regular Golf.

This copy was imported to Sweden in 2002 and has had 4 owners. There are plenty of receipts and documentation from both the time in Germany and in Sweden. Current owner has had the car since 2020. Total mileage over all years is 214320km.

  • 1 out of 558 Golf Country Chrome Editions built
  • The lifestyle car for the truly trend-conscious individual!
  • Unusual car that stands out from the crowd

Equipped with Volkswagen's 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine of approx. 100hp coupled to Syncro all-wheel drive and 5-speed manual gearbox.

Equipment and Options

"Chrome edition" has extra equipment that the regular Golf Country lacks, such as: sunroof, leather upholstery, chrome rims, chrome details, removable towbar and sidebars. Otherwise, a stereo is installed.

Condition

The general condition of the body is described as unrestored but very good with few blemishes and no rust. Stone chips, minor scratches and a few dents are naturally present as the car is over 30 years old and has driven over 20,000 miles. The paintwork is described as the original paintwork and in good condition. Even the windows are original so there are some scratches. Chrome, moldings, lamp lenses and emblems are described as being in good condition. The rims have minor damage to them but the tires are in very good condition. Feel free to look through photos of the car to form your own opinion of the condition. Questions can most easily be asked in the question field and answered by the owner.

The interior is in good working order considering the age and mileage. The driver's seat has a minor repair on the side support of the seat cushion. Instrument panel, steering wheel, buttons and controls in good condition. Door sides in very good condition. The sunroof is in good condition. All electronics in the passenger compartment work as intended.

Engine is described as being in unmodified original condition. Brakes are described as being in very good condition and parts have been replaced over the years. Everything mechanically works as intended.

Service history

Service was performed for approx. 2000km ago when the oil, filter and air filter were changed. Receipts, inspection reports and documentation are available both from owners in Germany and owners in Sweden. The car has been recently inspected with no complaints.

Summary

An excellent chance to acquire an early "lifestyle vehicle" of which there are very few nice ones left today. The icing on the cake is that it is a special edition of an already unusual car. Perfect for those who want to stand out, store away for the future or just enjoy as it is!
