Basic information and History
Saab showed off the second generation of their 9-5 model at the Frankfurt show and the first pre-series cars left the production line in the fall of 2009. SAAB managed to produce about 11,300 cars before being forced to stop production due to bankruptcy.
This is a very interesting object as it is a never registered pre-series car that Saab used as a press car. It is said that the first 10 cars were built by hand and this is car number three.
The cars with chassis numbers 1 & 2 were used as crash test cars and are scrapped, so this car with the No:3 in the chassis number was the first car the journalists got to test. The car has covered approx. 65,000 km before it ended up with a car collector who is now letting the car go up for auction.
This example has had 3 previous owners and has never been registered, as this is a pre-series car there is no COC document (Certificate of Conformity), which means that the car would be more difficult to register but it has been done with ref. to pre-series car No:5, that is now road legal in Sweden..
This car is a must for those who want to own a piece of Saab-history.
Equipment and Options
Painted in black metallic, with electrically adjustable leather seats and an automatic gearbox. What is unique about this particular example is that it was put together by hand by carefully selected personnel from Saab.
Usual standard equipment.
The engine is a four-cylinder turbo diesel of 2.0 L.
Condition
The car has been a test car and there are minor marks and scratches on the bodywork. The seller describes that the left rear fender edge shows rust bubbles. The seller has also noted a scratch on the lower right front fender. For further condition, the seller refers to the image material.
The tires have a tire pattern of approx. 6 mm.
Interior: The seller refers to the image material, the seller describes that everything works as it should.
Mechanically, the car works as it should, no leaks have been noted by the seller.
Electronic: The seller has noted that the car loses signal sometimes with the key when starting. But that it can be started manually.
Service History
The seller performed an oil change with oil and filters about 2 years ago.
There is no previous service documentation for the car. The engine and gearbox are described as being in very good condition.
The seller describes the brakes as being in good condition.
The seller's comment about the car: This is a pre-series car, never been registered, a hand-built Saab no. 3, the first 10 were built by selected staff at Saab and they put them together by hand
The reason the seller bought the car in the first place was "Chassis number and that it is the first Saab 9-5 that could be driven and was driven"
