Basic Information & Background

The 4th generation Ford Thunderbird was produced between 1964 - 1966 and was more focused on comfort and luxury compared to previous generations but was allowed to retain the 390ci large engine from the previous generation. It also got to keep the recognized "tilt-away" steering wheel that was appreciated by many! This example is a very well-documented example with full history and completely renovated over a long period of time. Before the car came to Sweden, it was sold at the recognized Barrett Jackson auction and has since been used sparingly by the only private owner here in Sweden. It is inspection-exempt and during the last inspection it even received the award "Extra fine condition" by Swedish Bilprovning.

Equipment

  • Ford 390ci (6.4L) V8 engine
  • Cruise-o-matic automatic transmission
  • Power steering / power brakes
  • Electric lifts
  • Electric seats
  • Electric sunroof

Condition

Exterior: Fully renovated and Mint-condition exterior where barely a screw has been left untouched. Full documentation about the renovation can be found under the album "documentation".

Interior. The car still has the original seats and dashboard, but completely gone through with nice black upholstery all around, carpet, door sides, etc. There are minor signs that the car has been "used" inside, but overall in fantastically good condition.

Mechanical: Engine and gearbox have been inspected and are in absolute top condition. The Cruise-o-matic gearbox together with the 390ci engine is a really nice combination that provides both performance and comfort when driving on the road and comfortable cruising. The engine runs extremely smoothly and nicely and there are no known mechanical faults on the car.

Service history

Service book/info is available for the car and has been used sparingly after the extensive renovation. Last inspection was in 2018 and is now inspection exempt.

Summary

A really stylish and well-renovated icon with a uniquely fine and well-documented history. Undoubtedly a fantastic opportunity to buy a completed long-term project where previous owners have invested an incredible amount of money and time! The model has had a very positive development upwards and these fine refurbished models will only increase so take the chance to acquire a future collector's car and nice driving machine!
