Basic information and History
The Ford Taunus appeared as a model from Ford as early as 1939 and has been, except during a short hiatus, in production until 1983 in Europe. The car was replaced in 1984 by the Ford Sierra, which, however, inherited many parts from the Taunus under its completely new body. This Swedish-sold Taunus 17M of the third generation, P5, from 1965 has had one owner between 1988 and 2022 and was driven in Dalarna. According to information, the total number of owners is 5. The car comes with a 1.7-liter V4 of approx. 70hp/120nm, 3-speed manual gearbox and rear wheel drive.
Equipment and options
In terms of equipment, it is standard 70s with window cranks, steering wheel gear shifter, and simpler air and heating package. JVC speakers have been installed at a later date but do not appear to have been connected to a device.
Condition
The car is described by the current owner as being in good working order. The paint has been renovated for approx. 30 years ago. The paint has usual washing scratches, small marks and normal wear for its age. Chrome trim as well. Lantern glass appears to be in OK condition. Glass on rear view mirror has seen better days and is stained. There is rust in small places but nothing that looks serious. Varnish has e.g. dropped above a fender and rust is visible on the body.
The interior of the car has fared very well. Chair fabric and vinyl are in good condition on both chairs and sofa, with some stains. Even the door sides look nice for their age. Inner ceiling comes without remarks. Instrument panel looks worn but is in working order. Rubber and fabric strips could be replaced with fresh, less dry ones. The material on the left door has, among other things, stains and wear in the details. The dashboard has a typical dry crack. In the trunk it looks relatively good, but there is wear from the years.
Mechanically, the current owner describes that it runs excellently in engine and gearbox. Drums and brake pads were renovated before the last inspection, 2022-02-10. Both mechanically and electrically, the car is described as working as it should. The tread depth of the tires measures approx. 8 mm. Leakage from engine or other parts has not been noted. Previous service records are not available, but the condition indicates that the car has had few owners and has been taken care of over the years.
Summary
Swedish-sold classic from Ford's European model program in a good condition enjoyable as is!
