This is a unique and quirky one! A Pininfarina-designed sports car that makes all the wonderful sounds you would expect from a Ferrari. At the Geneva Motor Show in 1982, the Ferrari Mondial 8 was replaced by an even more powerful version, the Mondial Quattrovalvole. The car was manufactured between 1982 and 1985, and a total of 1145 cars were manufactured.
So, this is a mid-engine V8 sports car but with room for 4 making the Ferrari Mondial both an unusual and wonderful creation. Add to that a manual dog leg gearbox and you have a unique concept. The family man's Ferrari.
Ferrari Mondial was manufactured between 1980 and 1993 and the Quattrovalvole versions saw production between 1982-85 and this being a 1985 model is one of the latest cars in the production series. Quattrovalvole or QV introduced a new four-valve head; the design of the combustion chamber is said to be based on the Formula 1 engine of the early eighties. The engine was shared with the contemporary 308 GTB / GTS QV and produced 240 hp (179 kW).
This example was imported from Italy in 2000 and has had 4 owners in Sweden between 2000 and 2022.
The car comes with a fresh full MOT without remarks and has just undergone a major service where a Ferrari specialist (EB Auto Uppsala) replaced the timing belt and all the wheels. There is a lot of other documentation that ensures that this is a well-looked-after example.
All major mechanical work, including renovation of cooling systems and cylinder heads, has been carried out by the renowned specialist AMK in Stockholm.
- Restored electrical control unit with modern fuses and new circuit board but with the old casing, made in the USA, see the receipt for the date.
- Newly renovated cooling system throughout including cylinder head gasket.
- New ignition system. Hats, cables and distributor caps, and rotor.
- New front springs + chassis adjustment
The car is re-sprayed in the original color after import to Sweden and the current paint condition is to be assessed as good condition. There are imperfections in the clear coat on the roof and hood as well as some paint imperfections, but nothing out of the ordinary.
The car displays an overall very good condition externally with the expected age-related wear. The bumper shows age wear with minor cracks. Both pop-up lights work as they should. Original wheels came in 16.5 inches, now the aftermarket is 16 inches due to easier sourcing of tires, original wheels also come with the car.
Underneath, the car is in good condition with no visible signs of severe rust. Some surface rust is present.
The interior is in beige leather, the ceiling in gray/blue denim with a dark blue top on the dashboard. The interior is generally in good condition with some wear on the driver's seat after getting in and out. All buttons and controls work as they should. There is an original mounted stereo from Blaupunkt. The cassette player is not working.
Overall, this is a very solid car where everything works as it should be delivered newly inspected, and newly serviced. All the new owner needs to do this summer is turning the key and hit the roads. Why not a trip to Italy?
