Basic information and History
- Impressive 50s convertible from Chrysler
- Unrenovated condition
The Chrysler Windsor was introduced in 1939 and was last produced in the States in 1961. However, the model was built until 1966 in Canada. The Windsor was only sold with a straight six until 1955 when the V8 was introduced to the model. In 1951, the Windsor became Chrysler's entry-level model, despite its high level of equipment, and the model has accounted for a large part of Chrysler's sales during its lifetime.
This well-preserved but unrestored 1950 Chrysler Windsor was sold new in the States and was privately imported in 2020 by the current owner. The body is a 2-door cabriolet equipped with a 4.1-liter straight six of approx. 120hp/270nm connected to a 3-speed automatic. As a fun curiosity, we have been informed that the car was in a museum in the USA before it was bought.
Equipment and Options
In the 50s, standard equipment was a bit more spartan than on today's cars, and AM/FM radio and electric clock were considered a good standard.
Condition
The car comes in an unrestored condition and has managed relatively well over the years. The original paint is described by the owner as worn over time. Chrome and moldings have various signs of age but have managed over the years. We have been informed that, among other things, there is rust and bubbles in the paint at the bottom of the rear fender towards the tailgate. Rust is also found in several places and is documented in pictures. However, the glass parts are described as being in good condition. Rims are in good condition and the tires come with approx. 5mm remaining pattern. The cab roof looks relatively fine with only stains on it. In the front, there are cracks in the paintwork around the lamps. Also at the back around the boot lid. In the trunk it looks dry and nice under carpets.
The interior of the car is in expected fine original condition. Carpets have dirt and stains but managed decently. Door sides are in relatively good condition and material on seating surfaces as well. There are minor dry cracks but no more serious damage. Buttons, controls and dashboard come with patina. The radio and fan are out of order according to information from the owner. Interior roof of the convertible looks fine with minor wear.
Mechanically, the car is described as working very well. No leaks have been noted from engine or box. Drums are described as being in good condition. Underneath there is surface rust on wear parts but nothing worse.
Please look through our photos to form an idea of the condition. Questions can most easily be asked in the comment section!
Service history
The car was last inspected in 2020 and is inspection exempt. Last service was performed by the current owner in 2023. Previous records are not available.
Summary
A nice unrestored 50's cab that with a little love can become really nice. Use as a rolling project or enjoy as is!
