Basic information and history

The Saab 900S from the 1992 model year belongs to the last years of the classic 900 series. The model is appreciated for its well-thought-out ergonomics, safety focus, the characteristic panoramic window, the ignition switch between the seats and robust drivetrains adapted to the Nordic climate. The drivetrain in the 900S is the 16-valve engine with a low-pressure turbo and 145 hp. The sound is considered the best of all Saabs, even the two-strokes. The engine was optimized for torque rather than power, which made it very easy to drive and pleasant for everyday use.

This example is being sold at NO RESERVE on Bidders Highway. According to the seller, the car has lived its life in northern Sweden and is well known locally. The current odometer reading is 345,780 km and the seller states that the odometer reading can be guaranteed .

Ownership history according to the seller: The first owner was an elderly lady from Piilijärvi who kept the car for about 21 years and drove just over 320,000 kilometers. The car was then briefly owned by a car collector and mechanic in Kiruna, who after about a month sold it on to a reindeer herder in Övre Soppero. The reindeer herder used the car for about three months, then parked it and the car sat idle for about five years. After the owner's death, the car ended up in an estate. The current seller describes how the car was saved from scrapping and that it started immediately after being dormant.

The seller also says that the car is locally known as the “Piilijärvi-saab.” According to the seller, an incident during reindeer herding and a severe mountain storm explains the bite marks found on some seats from a dog left in the car.

The glass is without cracks, but the windshield has two smaller stone chips. The headlight lenses and lamps are described as flawless. The moldings around the wheel arches have dry cracks and are missing on two of the wheel arches. The door panels and steps show light signs of use.

The dashboard has two cracks in the usual places. The headliner is in top condition with no signs of loosening. The steering wheel, controls and buttons are described as functioning well without any play.

Tires and rims: Summer tires in very good condition, estimated mileage approximately 1500 km. Alloy rims with normal wear and some clear coat damage.

Mechanics and function: The engine has been recently serviced, runs at a low and smooth idle and without any noted noises according to the seller. The gearbox and drivetrain work well, however it should be noted that third gear may need a slight extra push during heavy acceleration. During normal driving, the shifting is said to be unnoticed. The brakes are in good condition, with new rear pads after the last inspection.

Service history

Documented service history and previous receipts are missing according to the seller. The last service was performed approximately 150 km ago in connection with an inspection, when the following is stated to have been done: change of engine oil, glycol, cylinder head gasket and related gaskets. Rear brake pads replaced after the inspection.

Last approved inspection: 2025-10-04 .

Summary

A late classic Saab 900S from 1992 with a vivid northern history and a striking presence. The car is in original specification with manual windows and no AC, which suits those looking for a simple and reliable setup. The paint has regained its shine after polishing and the interior is fine with the exception of documented bite marks on the driver's seat and rear center seat and two known cracks in the dashboard. Mechanically, the seller describes the car as sound with recent cylinder head work and service. The gearbox works well with the remark about third gear during heavy acceleration.

Known locally as the Piilijärvi Saab , this is a characterful and late example of an icon. The item is being sold without a reserve price on Bidders Highway. With high mileage but clearly documented history according to the seller, it is suitable for both continued use and preservation.

Self-inspection is recommended to confirm condition and function.
