Basic information and history
The Mercedes-Benz 500 SL of the R129 generation was launched in the early 1990s and combined the advanced chassis technology of the time with a refined V8. The model is known for its robust construction, sophisticated multi-link rear axle, double overhead camshafts and four-valve technology in the M119 engine, as well as safety features such as an automatically deployable roll bar. Every car enthusiast should have owned an R129, at least once!
This is a Swedish-sold 1991 500 SL that the owner bought in 2005 from a private individual in Skåne and states that it has always been in a heated garage since then. The average use has been around 3000 km per year and more sparingly in recent years. The seller states that the odometer reading is 170,059 kilometers and can be guaranteed. The last service was carried out at 166,877 kilometers. Other ownership history before 2005 is not known, however there is plenty of history. The reason for selling is limited time to use the car due to illness in the family.

Condition
Body and exterior: The paint is described as being in very good condition with some stone chips in the front and a small scratch on the right front fender. The chrome, moldings, headlight lenses and emblems are said to be in good condition apart from one headlight lens with a small stone chip in it. The windshield has not been replaced. The side windows have some scuff marks. There are small scuff marks at the attachment to the hardtop.
Convertible top: Original convertible top in good condition. The plastic rear window is original and slightly milky, but visibility is said to be good.
Interior: Upholstery and interior are described as fine considering the age. Steering wheel, controls and buttons are in excellent and undamaged condition according to the seller. The panel by the gear selector has a small crack in it.
Wheels and tires: The car is on new summer/winter combination tires. Separate summer tires with approximately seven millimeters of tread depth are included. The rims have some minor scratches.
Mechanics and function: The engine is reported to be in perfect condition without any complaints. The gearbox and drivetrain function as they should. Brake maintenance has been done as needed, with replaced brake discs and front brake calipers.
Service history
The last service was carried out at 166,877 kilometres and included a general check and engine oil change. The inspection with a passing result was recorded on 2025‑03‑05. According to the seller, there is a binder with all the documentation from 1995 onwards, including receipts for material purchases, workshop invoices and inspection reports. The car has been stored in a heated garage under the current owner since 2005.

Sommardäcken är inte monterade på fälg, de har tidigare suttit på bilens nuvarande fälgar och har dim.
205/60 R16 De nuvarande fälgarna är inte originalfälgar.

- Finns där rost på karossen någonstans?
- Fungerar hydrauliken till suffletten, utan läckor?
- Fungerar alla elektriska funktioner?
- Inga varningslampor som lyser?
- Ser ut som strålkastarviskarna står i felaktigt läge, fungerar de som de ska?
- Har jag uppfattad det rätt att sommardäcken är utan fälg?
- Hardtop i fint skick?

Hej Jesper,
Nej ingen rost finns. Bilen är aldrig renoverad eller omlackad.
Suffletten är original men i fint skick och fungerar utan läckor.
All el fungerar och inga varningslampor lyser.
Noterade också att viskarna stod i fel läge efter fotograferingen, men nu är de i utgångsläge igen efter en spolning på vindrutan. Kan vara så att de behöver in framtida service.
Ja, sommardäcken är utan fälg och har varit monterade på bilens nuvarande fälgar. Däckdim. 205/60 R16.
Hardtoppen och i fint skick, den har nästan i alla 20 åren hängt i garagetaket.

Har några följdfrågor:
1) Utifrån problemet med vindrutetorkarna och torkarna till framljusen, får man väl utgå ifrån multi-relät håller på att ge upp och sånt får man såklart räkna med. Men vet du om det är originalet som sitter där eller är det bytts tidigare med tanke på att att är ett känt problem?
2) Hydrauliken till taket sägs fungera som den ska, men har den servats eller reparerats under de 20 åren du haft bilen?

Hej igen,
Under de 20 år som jag haft bilen så är inget relä bytt men om någon tidigare bytt känner jag inte till.
Ej heller taket är reparerat, däremot har verkstad smort leder mm vid ett tillfälle.
Har inte haft något problem med hydrauliken som jag märkt under min tid som ägare.
