Basic information and history
The 1982 Suzuki GSX1100 represents one of the most powerful and exciting Japanese superbikes of the early 1980s. The model was a sensation upon its debut thanks to Suzuki's innovative oil- and air-cooled engine with double overhead camshafts and 16 valves, which was combined with an advanced chassis design and period-typical, hexagonal aluminum wheels. The GSX1100 quickly positioned itself at the forefront of the performance segment and remains a sought-after item for collectors and enthusiasts to this day.
This fine example has retained its original exhaust system throughout its long motorcycle life. When the current owner took over the bike, he immediately submitted it for a full technical review at MotoMate in Motala.
The seller states that he has always liked the model and felt compelled to acquire this fine example in original condition.
Equipment and options
- Original exhaust system
The motorcycle has been kept as close to original as possible and is, according to the seller, free of extensive modifications. It is worth noting that the original exhaust system is still fitted.
Condition
Body and exterior condition: The motorcycle is in working condition considering the model year and mileage. The paint is reported to be in reasonable working condition but the tank shows traces of older red color where the paint has peeled off at the bottom edge, which may indicate a previous repaint or tank replacement. The side covers are mounted with cable ties, as the original covers' mounts often break and there is some cracking in these covers. The chrome, moldings and emblems are reported to be in okay condition. The Suzuki brand on the fueltank has two small chips in the logo. New decals are available and comes with the bike, but because of aging, the colour is somewhat different.
Tires and rims: New tires front and rear were installed at the last inspection, these have barely been used since then.
Mechanics and function: The engine is in good working order, valves are adjusted and carburetors synchronized. The gearbox and driveline are described as good. The master brake cylinder has been replaced, the brakes work but to achieve the best performance it is recommended to change to steel braided brake hoses, as the original hoses tend to give some flex on older bikes. Controls, buttons and instruments are intact and in working order, where the gauges now have LED lighting.
Service history
A complete service was performed on 2023-01-25 at MotoMate in Motala with a major technical overhaul:
- Changed oil and filter

- Valve adjustment and carburetor synchronization were carried out.
- New tires front and rear
- New clutch plates
- Replacement of rearview mirrors and turn signals
- New horn
- Comprehensive gauges with LED lighting in the dashboard

The motorcycle has been barely used since then. A limited number of paper receipts from current and previous owners are included, but no complete service book exists. The service interval has reportedly been followed. The last approved inspection was 2023-03-01 and the motorcycle is now exempt from inspection according to current regulations.
Summary
This Suzuki GSX1100E is a classic bike in near original design, with its contemporary expression preserved and a rare original exhaust system . A technical review with replacement of essential wear parts has recently been carried out, which provides a good starting point for both enthusiast and collector. It is an excellent choice for those looking for a timeless Japanese classic with documented technical review and preserved patina. A link to Suzuki's engine historical heritage and a piece of motorcycle culture for the next owner.
