Basic Information and History
The Citroën 2CV Charleston – one of the most iconic classic cars of all time – was introduced in 1980 as a tribute to the charm of the original, featuring a two-tone paint finish and period details. This is a unique opportunity to acquire a very fine example of the 1981 anniversary model. The car has had three known users in its lifetime; the seller does not know who the first owner was, but the second was the seller’s father, who loved the car and cared for it meticulously for many years. After his passing, the seller took over and continued the upkeep. In recent years, the car has mostly been stored in a garage and only started and driven occasionally, with inspection and careful review ahead of the sale.
- Previous owners: 3 (including the seller and the seller’s father)
- Inspection: Yes, with approved result (August 18, 2025)
- Trivia: This is the anniversary model with unique “houndstooth” upholstery and a larger 29 hp engine.
Equipment and Options
- Anniversary model: Charleston with two-tone paint
- Unique original interior in “houndstooth” pattern
- Larger original engine, 29 hp
- New headliner (replaced in 2025)
- Michelin X tires with correct tread, approx. 5 mm remaining
During ownership, the car has received a fully rebuilt engine with all gaskets replaced and valves adjusted (2025). A small rust hole near the pedals has previously been repaired, and regular maintenance has been carried out, including lubrication of all grease nipples and headliner replacement. No major modifications have been made; the car is largely in original condition.
Condition
Body & Exterior
The car retains its original paint in very good condition for its age, with only two minor dents on the front doors and a small one on the hood. A previously repaired rust spot exists near the pedals. On the fresh-air intake flap below the windshield, a few minor blisters can be seen. Trim and headlight lenses are well preserved (with minor rust noted on one trim piece near the sills) and the windows are in excellent shape. Some patina in the form of scuff marks at the entry points is present, which is normal for this model year.
Interior
The Charleston upholstery is in very fine condition and the entire interior is well preserved, except for light wear on the entry sills. The steering wheel, controls, and switches show minimal use without damage or cracks. The roof lining is brand new (replaced this year).
Wheels & Tires
Michelin X tires, tread depth around 5 mm. Tire age unknown, but correct brand and pattern for the model.
Mechanics & Functionality
The engine has recently undergone a complete overhaul (new gaskets, adjusted valves). The braking system with drum brakes is in correct working condition and was recently approved at inspection. Gearbox and drivetrain operate very well, with recently lubricated nipples. All functions checked before sale.
Service History
The most recent major service was performed on August 13, 2025, at AD Bilverkstad in Värnamo, where all engine gaskets were replaced and the valves adjusted.
The car passed inspection with an approved result on August 18, 2025, and inspection documents are included. Older service records and receipts are missing, but the seller can confirm continuous maintenance by a specialist in older Citroën cars in Ljungby, according to the previous owner.
