Basic information and history
The Ferrari Daytona Spider, or 365 GTS4 as it is actually called, is one of the most iconic models in the car world. Much of this is thanks to Miami Vice, where during the show's first two seasons the two lead characters, Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs, could be seen cruising around in a black Daytona Spider. But it was actually a kit car from McBurnie Coachcraft.
Southern Roadcraft was one of the smaller British kit car manufacturers that, during the 1970s and 1980s, offered fibreglass bodies with clear inspiration from the Italian sports racers of the 1950s. The SRV12 model was generally built on Jaguar mechanicals, where the engine, suspension and other components were sourced from donor cars and fitted beneath an open roadster body with characteristic pontoon-shaped front wings. The result was a car with classic lines, a twelve-cylinder power source, and a construction method that made each example more or less unique.
This example is a 1980 Southern Roadcraft SRV12, styled as a Daytona Spider, which has been imported from England and never registered in Sweden. This is a project vehicle in parts, where the car has not been assembled. According to the previous owner, the car was driven right up until it was dismantled and everything is said to work, but this has not been verified by the seller personally.
Equipment and options
- Fibreglass kit car body, delivered in primed condition
- Wheels which, according to the seller, are in fine condition
- Engine starts on starting fluid, though the fuel system is not connected
- Parts from the donor car are included
The vehicle is a kit car and thus not a factory-built original vehicle. The seller has not stated any further options or modifications beyond the build concept itself. In addition to what is shown in the pictures, a number of parts from the donor car are also included. There are no other parts for the body or interior than what is shown in the pictures.
Condition
Body and exterior: The fibreglass body is described as being in good condition, but it is only primed and lacks finished paintwork. Windows are completely missing.
Interior: The car lacks an interior, instrument panel and headliner. All of this needs to be sourced and fitted by whoever takes on the project.
Tyres and wheels: The wheels are said to be fine, while the tyres are old and should be replaced before the car is put into use.
Mechanics and function: The engine's actual condition is unknown. According to the previous owner, the car was driven right up until it was dismantled, and the engine starts on starting fluid since the fuel system is not connected. The gearbox has the same background, meaning it was in operation before the car was taken apart, but it has not been tested by the seller. The condition of the brakes is unknown. The car does not start in its current state and therefore cannot be driven as it stands.
Service history
There are no receipts or other documentation to substantiate any service history. The car has never been registered or inspected.
Summary
A 1980 Southern Roadcraft SRV12 imported from England, sold as an unassembled project. The fibreglass body is primed and described as being in good condition, the wheels are fine, and the engine starts on starting fluid. Windows, interior, instrument panel and headliner are missing, the tyres are old, and the mechanical condition is largely unknown, although the previous owner states that everything worked before it was dismantled. This is a project for someone who wants to complete an unusual British kit car with classic roadster lines and who has the knowledge and time to finish the work.
