Basic information and history
The DAF 66, also called Remjohan in Swedish, here from the 1974 model year, is one of the most distinctive small cars from the 70s with its gearless Variomatic gearbox. The system uses belts and variators, which provides variable gear ratios and allows the car to reach approximately the same speed in reverse as in forward. The 66 was a further development of the DAF 55 and later became the basis for the Volvo 66 after Volvo took over the passenger car business. The design is characterized by its agility in city traffic, simple mechanics and surprisingly good comfort for the class.
This example was sold new in Swedish and was purchased new in Sveg. According to the seller, the current user is the third in line and the car has had a total of five registered owners. The odometer reading is stated to be 33,000 km and can be guaranteed according to the seller. The version is Super Lux, optionally equipped with a radio and a speaker.
The information above is provided by the seller.

Condition
Body and exterior The paint is matte with a patina typical of the period. There are minor dents, including in the left front fender and a small one on the tailgate. Rust is found in the right rear sand sheet, as well as a cutout in the right front fender where both the inner and outer fenders are concerned, approximately 4x4 cm. Other places where the paint has come off are also rusted (bonnet, rear step on the driver's side, B- and C-pillars on the driver's side). The reversing lamp cover glass is broken. The headlight wipers are missing rubber. Glass is in good condition. Chrome, moldings, headlight glass and emblem are in good condition for the age and are well suited for further detailing. See pictures for your own assessment.
Interior The interior has retained its original feel with some worn areas. The dashboard has traces of moisture. Insulation is hanging down under the glove compartment. The fabric on the seats is loose and hanging in places with large tears in the fabric of the driver's seat and rear seat and cracks in the vinyl. The vinyl layer of the parcel shelf has come loose. The covers for the folding mechanisms are missing on both front seats. The headliner is complete but shows traces of moisture. The rearview mirror has lost its reflection on the outer edges. The steering wheel, controls and buttons are in good condition. Ignition is via a separate button. See pictures for your own assessment.
Tires and rims The tires are in good condition with approximately 4–5 mm tread depth. The rims show surface rust and paint peeling. See pictures for your own assessment.
Mechanics and function The engine runs very well according to the seller and has been recently serviced. The brake system has been recently reviewed and is said to be in good condition. The Variomatic works well. The belts are reportedly original from 1974, which makes a belt change a wise preventive measure despite functioning operation today.
Service history
The service book is filled out according to the manufacturer's intervals. The last service was performed approximately 500 km ago, with replacement of spark plugs, ignition cables, distributor cap, engine oil, oil filter and fan belt. The brake system has recently been renovated with new components as above.
Last inspected with approved results on 2025-08-20 and the car is now exempt from inspection. Documentation included is a service book and an older ownership certificate. No extensive receipt folders or other protocols according to the seller.
Summary
A Swedish-sold DAF 66 Super Lux from 1974 with a low mileage, working mechanics and the characteristic Variomatic that has made the model a cult classic. The example offers honest cosmetic patina with local rust and a few minor dents, but a strong foundation with a freshly serviced driveline and serviced brakes.
For the DAF enthusiast, this is a pleasant and drivable base with charm, history and development potential. A nice starting point for a light cosmetic refresh and preventive belt change in the variator, or to preserve as a contemporary utility enthusiast with the right feeling.
