Ginetta G4 1965 – Fully Restored and Equipped with Lotus Twincam
Basic Information and History
We are proud to offer one of the most sought-after British sports cars of the 1960s – a 1965 Ginetta G4, presented in exceptional condition following an extensive full restoration carried out between 2021 and 2022. This lightweight and razor-sharp competition machine is not only in near-new condition – it also features the most desirable powertrain: the legendary Lotus 1.6-litre Twin Cam engine, paired with a four-speed manual gearbox and dual Weber carburettors.
The car will be exhibited at the Aurora Event in Båstad from June 27–29, 2025, where it will be displayed alongside other exclusive vehicles. A perfect opportunity to see this British icon in person before the auction ends.
History
The Ginetta G4 was produced between 1961 and 1968 by the four Walklett brothers, who founded Ginetta Cars with the vision of building road-legal race cars. The G4 quickly became their most prominent model – combining low weight, high performance, and strong motorsport credentials, it was a popular choice both as a kit and a fully assembled car. The example offered here was stored in a private collection for 40 years before being brought back to life through a full restoration to the superb condition it is in today.
Restoration and Condition
The restoration, completed between 2021 and 2022, was carried out with great care and attention to detail. All rusted components of the chassis were replaced, the bodywork was restored and repainted, and new leather-trimmed seats were fitted along with new instruments, steering wheel, windscreen, side windows, lights, badges, and aluminium tanks. A stainless steel exhaust system was installed, and the car was rebuilt with racing in mind – but with the finish and attention to detail of a brand-new vehicle.
The Lotus Twin Cam engine was also completely rebuilt and runs beautifully today. No leaks have been noted, and the entire car feels tight, solid, and correctly assembled. Wheels, tyres, lighting, chrome, and trim are all in excellent condition – with no compromises made.
The interior is stylish, functional, and in top condition – a cockpit that combines the spirit of 1960s racing with a sense of modern quality.
Summary
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a top-tier example of one of the most agile and competitive British sports cars of the 1960s. With its low weight, sharp engine, and outstanding performance on the track, the Ginetta G4 is a true David among Goliaths – perfect for historic racing or as a gem in any collection. The fact that it’s in near-new condition makes this an exceptional and unique opportunity.
