Basic information and history

The Jaguar Mark 2 was launched in 1959 as a thoroughly refined evolution of the compact sports saloon Jaguar had introduced a few years earlier. With larger glass areas, slimmer roof pillars, a wider rear track and a substantially updated interior, the Mark 2 became the model that defined the notion of a fast and well-dressed sports saloon during the 1960s. In the top-of-the-range 3.8 Litre version sits the double overhead camshaft XK engine of 3,781 cubic centimetres, a straight-six that gave the car performance few four-door saloons could match at the time. The model earned a reputation as both a police vehicle and a getaway car, and the walnut-veneered wood-trimmed dashboard together with the leather upholstery gave a cabin few rivals could equal.

Mechanics and function: The engine is described as being in good condition, as is the gearbox. The brakes are functional but require a full inspection before being used on the road. The brake discs may have surface rust, and the brake fluid, brake hoses and calipers should be checked and replaced if necessary. The handbrake may need adjustment.
