Basic information and history
The 1960 Chevrolet Impala is an American icon that exudes elegance, nostalgia and classic 60s design in its purest form. For the car enthusiast, this is not just a car – it is a collector's item with details that belong both on the road and in the garage. This particular example is something out of the ordinary: a low-mileage vehicle with only 2 previous owners and a documented history from the USA to Sweden.
The car was imported from the USA and purchased by the current owner in 2016 from the car's second owner, who had owned the car since 1967 - a rare opportunity to get your hands on a documented and carefully owned object. The current odometer reading is 91,880 km . It has only been driven sparingly since its renovation - approximately 2,350 km in Sweden since 2017 and only approximately 1000 km since the last engine renovation.
The renovation of the car has been carried out with great care for the original details, but without simply replacing everything – the goal was to preserve the genuine and authentic as far as possible. The body has not been frame lifted during the renovation and many of the glass and chrome details are still original.
Equipment and options
- Original 348" V8 engine
- Steering servo
- Electro-hydraulic convertible
The car's level of equipment is both unique and sought after by Impala enthusiasts. Additionally, some of the aluminum badges and trim are new, while other stainless trim has been straightened and polished to a very good condition.
Condition
Body & Exterior Condition: This Impala has been completely and completely restored in Sweden in 2017–2018, including a new trunk floor, new lower rear fenders and new floor drains. The car was completely repainted in 2018 and polished/sealed the following year, and has remained in very good condition since then. The windows are the original ones and have been preserved in fine condition.
Chrome, moldings & details: Very good original condition on front and rear bumpers, grill and rear plates. The stainless steel moldings are straightened and polished, aluminum emblems and moldings are new. All hubcaps are special and exceptionally rare.
Interior: The interior is in very good condition and was completely renovated/replaced in 2017–18. The cab is without damage. The steering wheel, controls and buttons are fine, without deviations. original houndstooth/seating surfaces have been replaced with fabric material; original vinyl is included.
Tires & rims: Very good condition, the tires have only been driven about 1000 kilometers and were put on in 2023 when the original rims were also blasted and painted.
Mechanics & function: The engine is completely renovated (2022-2023) with new original pistons, main and crank bearings, new camshaft, lifters and renovated tops (purchased in the USA in 2022). The brakes are in very good condition. The gearbox (Powerglide) shifts fine, but some oil leakage occurs during longer parking, probably from the stuffing box to the turbine, and has not been renovated. After completion, the car has been very economical and is used today without problems.
Service history
Service has been recently carried out, only about 1000 km ago, with engine oil changed, new spark plugs and ignition parts, and new springs & shock absorbers fitted. The car was inspected and approved in January 2017 (registration and control inspection). After that, the thorough renovation began.
Documentation that comes with the car includes a copy of the US title in the previous owner's name, copies of Swedish purchase receipts for body panels, front end alignment records, and inspection records. The car is delivered with license plates: KDU976.
