Basic information and history
Do you dream of a true American icon of the 1940s? Here is your chance to call home a 1948 Chrysler Windsor Coupe – a car that embodies post-war elegance, comfort and innovation. The Windsor Coupe was one of Chrysler's flagship models and is distinguished by its generous shapes, Art Deco details and lavish material choices. This example is also exceptionally well preserved in its original design , meticulously maintained and praised by motor historians for its authenticity and condition – the opportunity for the connoisseur looking for a piece of rolling American history.
The car is imported from the USA and has had a total of 4 users . The odometer currently shows 100,000 km . Since 2003, the current owner has cared for and maintained the car continuously with the greatest care. Basically everything is in original condition, even the spring leaves are wrapped in wax paper according to the original specification. The car has been used sparingly at veteran meetings, weddings and proms, the main reason for the purchase was precisely the unusually good condition. Over the years, the car has received a lot of praise at exhibitions and from motor historians, especially for its incredible original design.
The model is equipped with the original "Spirit" engine and the classic fluid drive gearbox - a unique drive package that makes the car special both to drive and to collect.
Equipment and options
- Original 6-cylinder "Spirit" engine
- Fluiddrive gearbox
- Fulton cap (retrofitted contemporary accessory)
- Complete, fully functional instrumentation
- Fully restored original interior with contemporary fabrics
- New radial tires with wide white sidewall (upgrade from diagonal for better handling)
Modifications and improvements:
The car is basically preserved in its original design, which is rare and sought after. The most important improvement is the change to modern radial tires for safer and more comfortable driving, as well as the classic Fulton cap on the windshield that completes the look with an extra touch of time.
Condition
Body & exterior condition:
It was repainted section by section in connection with a complete renovation from 2003 ; the color is the original color according to factory specifications. Documentation is available. Chrome, moldings, headlight lenses and emblems are in perfect condition. All windows are intact, without cracks or damage. The exterior of the car is in exceptionally original condition.
Interior:
The interior has been carefully restored with fabrics identical to the original delivery. The instrumentation is in top condition and everything works, except for the radio function. Only a couple of superficial scratches, about 1.5 cm long, are found at the top of the driver's seat - however, no holes or serious damage. The headliner is completely without any complaints. The steering wheel, controls and all buttons work and have an original feel.
Tires and rims:
The car is on new radial tires with wide white sides – these have replaced the original diagonal tires for better roadholding.
Mechanics and function:
The engine runs excellently and is known for its purring. The brakes are in good condition (muscle servo only), should possibly be bled considering that the car has mostly been parked in a heated garage. The gearbox (fluiddrive) and driveline are completely without complaint and work perfectly.
Service history
The service history is fully documented with a binder filled with history, protocols and receipts from the entire renovation process that began in 2003. Recently, in 2024, both the engine and gearbox have had an oil change and filter change. The car is exempt from inspection and therefore has no current inspection, but all ongoing documentation is available to the buyer.
