Basic Information and History
This 1988 Ford Fiesta XR2 has been in the same family since October 2017, when it was purchased by the current seller’s father as a restoration project. According to records, the car has had around 20 owners in total, four of whom were private individuals. During the winter of 2017/2018, an extensive restoration was carried out, including rust repairs, repainting, replacement of the tailgate and front seats, and installation of a manual choke to improve cold starts.
The restoration process was thoroughly documented with many photos showing the car completely disassembled. Since the restoration, the vehicle has been stored in a cold garage and only driven to and from car shows during summer. This XR2 not only represents a slice of 1980s design and driving pleasure, but also reflects the passion of a man who spent his life working with cars.
Equipment and Extras
- Original 13" alloy wheels specific to the XR2 model (currently fitted)
- Weber carburetor installed
Additional items included in the sale:
- Original front seats
- Original tailgate
- Four aluminum wheels
- Several spare parts from a previous Fiesta restoration
Condition
Exterior:
The paint is considered to be in good condition, although slight color mismatches may be noticeable around the tailgate and front doors to a trained eye. Minor scratches are present but are likely polishable. A few small dings and dents can be found. Chrome, trim, and light lenses are in good condition, although the left-side sill skirt should be reattached with new clips. Some creaking from the dashboard occurs when driving over rough surfaces. There is a small stone chip in the windshield on the passenger side (not a crack).
Interior:
The interior is in very good condition. The Ford logo on the steering wheel is sun-faded, and there are minor scuff marks on the passenger side panel beneath the glove compartment. Otherwise, the headliner, seats, controls, and dashboard are in excellent condition.
Mechanical:
The car is currently road-legal and passed its most recent inspection on 2025-06-19 with no remarks. The engine runs well and starts reliably, though there may be a minor oil leak. The gearbox and drivetrain function smoothly without unusual noises. The brakes were refurbished in 2017/2018 and remain in very good condition. There are no known electrical or mechanical issues.
Service History
Extensive restoration carried out during the winter of 2017/2018:

Hi, Are the plastic parts like the wheel arch extensions, side skirts, and bumpers still in their original textured (grainy) finish, or have they been repainted or smoothed during the restoration?
Hi! As far as I know, all parts are original. Unfortunately, my father passed away in December 2024, so I’m not able to ask him exactly what was done. All the photos you find under “Miscellaneous” are from when he bought the car in October 2017 and during the restoration work in the winter of 2017/2018, through to the car’s completion and inspection in June 2018. If any previous owner made changes to the plastic parts, I unfortunately don’t know.
Hi, Thank you very much for your reply, and I’m truly sorry to hear about your father. It’s clear that a lot of care and passion went into this project — the car is a beautiful tribute to his work. I’ll take some time to review the photos in the “Miscellaneous” section more closely. Thanks again for your transparency and kindness. Wishing you all the best, Franck.V.
Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, my father truly loved working on cars, mopeds, and engines, and he spent most of his life in the automotive world. I knew he had put a lot of effort into restoring the Ford, but I was honestly surprised when I found all the photos from the restoration on his phone — I hadn’t realized just how much time he had spent on rust repairs and everything else. It really is a thorough job, and the car is in great condition. 😊 Thanks again for your thoughtful message — it means a lot. Best regards Staffan
Hello, I would like to know if there is a specific deadline for picking up the vehicle after the auction ends and payment is completed. Thank you in advance for your answer. Best regards, Franck V.
Hello
There is no immediate deadline for collecting the vehicle, but we kindly ask that it be picked up as soon as reasonably possible. Since the car is still located at a private property that is also up for sale, and due to insurance and space considerations, we would appreciate it if the vehicle is collected no later than the end of August 2025.
If I win the vehicle, I will need to appoint a transport company. Would you be able to help coordinate the pickup with them? Franck V.
Yes, of course – if needed we’ll help you with that.
Hello, I just noticed that some of the exterior photos are different. Some show the Ford logo on the hood, others don’t. Could you please tell me which photos are the most recent or the correct ones to refer to?
All the photos under the “Miscellaneous” section were taken when my father purchased the vehicle in October 2017 and during the time he was restoring it in the winter and spring of 2018.
Sorry, the last five photos under the “Exterior” section were also taken in the spring of 2018.
