The development of the replacement for the previous R129 model began in 1996. Five years later, in 2001, the result was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. In 2006, an updated version of the R230 is released and displayed as a safety car at the Hockenheim Ring during the F1 Championship in July. The facelifted version received an updated engine, stiffer chassis and exterior updates.

This updated 2007 R230 SL500 model was sold new in Italy and imported to Sweden in 2012. In Sweden, the vehicle has had 9 previous owners. Equipped with 5.5-liter V8 of approx. 388hp/530nm connected to the new 7-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. Despite its 1,800 kg of consistent luxury and quality, the car takes you from 0-100 in about 5 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Despite the weight and the performance, it is possible to ride comfortably on less than a liter per 10km. This example has driven just under 140,000 km and is described by the owner as being in a fine condition.

Well-equipped SL with, among other things, multifunction steering wheel with cruise control, A/C, Harman Kardon stereo with AUX, infotainment system with navigation and electric seats with memories. The car is otherwise equipped with an AMG sports package from the factory consisting of a skirt package and rims. Other optional extras from the factory include:

The car is described by its current owner as being in a rust-free and maintained condition, but normal wear and tear is present as expected for an almost 16-year-old car, including minor marks in the paintwork in places, but nothing conspicuously bad. Chrome, moldings and emblems are without remark. Headlights, however, have a slightly yellow surface. The AMG rims have some scratches and marks, and the tire depth measures approx. 6 mm.

According to the owner, the interior is in good condition. Dashboard and panels are also described as being in good condition. Electronics work as they should. There are no changes or upgrades performed. The saddle brown leather interior is in good condition but has the usual traces of use. There are some minor marks on the inside panels.

The engine and gearbox are described as being in perfect condition and the oil and filter were changed for approx. 2000 km ago. The brakes work as intended. Previous service records are unfortunately not available. Under the hood it looks relatively clean and tidy. There is a small crack in a plastic part. This is documented and can be seen in the picture.
