Basic Information and History
This 1949 Dodge Coronet Club Coupe is an exceptionally rare model – only 14 examples are known to be in running condition in Sweden, and this is the only one from 1949. The car was originally built in Canada, which means it came factory-equipped with dual fans, and was then sold to California. It was imported to Sweden in 2006 by a woman who later passed it on to the second Swedish owner. The current owner, the third in Sweden, purchased the car in December 2008.
The odometer reads 1,039,106.7498 kilometers (64,571 miles), but this mileage cannot be verified with documentation.
This model reflects its era clearly – the cabin is extra tall, reportedly designed to allow gentlemen wearing top hats to sit comfortably. All original keys are preserved and functional for the ignition, doors, and trunk, except for the glove compartment, where the lock has been modified with a magnet after the spring was lost.
Equipment and Features
- “Gangster visor” (installed in Sweden)
- Original built-in dashboard clock – still functional
- Original factory owner’s manual hanging under the dashboard
- Hidden radio/CD player in the glove compartment, powered by a 12V battery in the trunk (amplifier connection possible)
- Original semi-automatic transmission with high and low gears – clutch is used when starting and when switching between modes
- Rear air pump (installed by a previous owner, not currently connected as the leaf springs have been restored to original)
