Basic information and History
Unique 1930s coupe from American Bantam. The car in question is a 1938 model and is one of three examples in all of Europe. American Bantam produced compact and economical vehicles during a time when the Great Depression was affecting the automobile industry. The car is a two-door coupé, meaning it had a closed body with seating for two or more people. This example is a two-seater and the unusual option is an openable sunroof. This specimen was registered in Sweden on March 18, 1946 and over the years has participated in various rallies in Sweden and Norway.
- Unique 1930s coupe, American Bantam Model 30 Coupé
- One of three known examples in Europe
- Unusual bodywork with an openable sunroof
The Model 30 Coupe was typically equipped with a four-cylinder engine. The exact engine specifications may vary depending on the year of manufacture but this one is 747 cubic meters and delivers a healthy 20 horsepower. Manual 3-speed gearbox.
Condition
The car underwent a total renovation in 1991 and is described as stainless. Glass parts are in good condition and so is the paint. In connection with the renovation in the 90s, the paintwork was of course also renovated. Chrome and moldings are described as having minor marks, but according to the seller, they are insignificantly small and refer to the image material. The car's original rims are in good condition and without damage. Pattern depth is approx. 3 mm. The glass for the rear brake lights is missing.
The interior comes with a patina from all the years on the road, but is generally nice considering the age of the car. There is wear and damage to the passenger seat, but the driver's seat and rear seating area are in good condition. Dashboard and panel are in good condition. The fuel gauge does not work.
Mechanically, the car is in generally good condition. Engine and gearbox work as intended but leakage has been noted and the engine gasket should be replaced. Less leakage also at the water cooler. Carburetor and distributor may need to be adjusted and overhauled. Backs and drums are described as being in good condition.

Summary
The company American Bantam is perhaps best known for its role in the development of the Jeep. In the late 1930s, American Bantam developed a prototype for a small, light military vehicle that eventually led to the development of the Willys MB, which became the iconic Jeep of World War II. Today, the American Bantam Model 30 Coupe is a rare collector and vintage car, prized for its historical significance and unique design from a bygone era of the American automotive industry. According to the seller, there are said to be only 3 cars left in Europe and the only example in Sweden, which makes it very rare to say the least.
